Gyuto MonasteryAs the name itself suggests, Dharamshala is the house of various religions. The history of Gyuto monastery is as interesting as is its location. In previous times the monastery was known to teach its monks the powers of tantrism, a sort of black magic. Even today, people visit Gyuto to rewind history and brush up folklores about magic and tantrism. What is surprising is that here, black magic is used to heal people’s problems. Bhagsu FallsLocated at about 11 km. from Dharamshala, Bhagsu falls is known for its unparalleled beauty and an old temple. If you love watching the sun set, you must visit the sunset point at Naddi. Jwalamukhi Devi TempleJwalamukhi devi temple is one of the best examples of India’s brains in architecture. Since it also is one of the most important shaktipeeths, it is visited all round the year by tourists and devotees alike. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Jwalamukhi and is located at about 30 km. to the south of Kangra valley. It is said that Akbar, one of the most powerful Mughal emperors, tried dousing the flames releasing off the deity’s mouth and when he remained unsuccessful in doing so, he submitted to the mother’s power and presented her with gems and gold made accessories.

War MemorialThe war memorial guards the boundary of Dharamshala. It is built right at the entry point of the town. It is dedicated to those brave martyrs of India who gave away their lives fighting for us. What makes the experience magical is the walk through a dense forest of pine trees to reach the memorial. Inside the memorial, the names of the heroes have been inscribed on stones to make sure that their memories stay alive with us.

Namgyal MonasteryFounded in 16th century, the Namgyal monastery was brought into existence by the second Dalai Lama, Gendum Gyatso. It is located in the modern day Tibet and is known for providing monks learning on Buddhist’s religious texts and treatises. It is located right next to the residence of Dalai Lama and has, throughout years, served as a pillar of Buddhism. The Namgyal monastery is a beautiful mixture of religion and abstinence and therefore, must be visited by those who are looking to find balance in life.
